Chinese New Year week

This week Reception have explored Lunar New Year week. We have had great fun celebrating in lots of different ways. We have explored where China is in the world, and what China has become famous for. We read the story of the Great Race with the zodiac animals and retold the story. In the story some of the animals made a raft, so we have thought about how we could make our own rafts. We tested them on the water to see if they floated or sank. We have created our own Great Wall of China and made dragons in lots of different ways. In PE we have created our own lion dances. We learnt about the lantern festival and watched some dragon dances. This inspired us to create our own dragon using junk modelling resources. We used this to create our own dragon dance. Mrs Abdullah played the drum and we used ribbons and our dragon to dance to the music. Finally we have done some taste testing and have eaten spring rolls, prawn crackers, egg fried rice, noodles and some sweet and sour sauce. Mmmmmm
