Exploring heights

Year 1 have have fun exploring heights this week. We began by exploring key vocabulary that we would need - taller and shorter. We looked at heights of children in the class and used our vocabulary to compare and describe our heights. Then we compared more than two children, and used the words tallest and shortest. We created a height map of all of the children and practiced our new vocabulary to compare different people's heights and we ordered objects from tallest - shortest / shortest - tallest. The next day we started to measure how tall things are using non-standard measures. We used cubes to measure how tall different classroom objects are. Finally we have identified whether items are taller or shorter than 1 metre.
