Year 1 have explored the sense of hearing today. They came up with 4 investigations that they wanted to complete to answer the question: What stops us from hearing? We split into 4 groups and the children rotated around different adults to test their investigations. The children explored:
1. We made as much noise as we could to see whether we could still hear a bell/tambourine. We found that if it was really noisy it was hard to hear things.
2. Does distance affect our hearing. We played a tambourine near by to and then gradually moved the tambourine away. We found that we could still hear the tambourine but the further away it went, the quieter it got.
3. Does covering our ears stop us from hearing? We tested this and discovered that it stopped some of the sound but not all of it.
4. Does facing a different way to the sound stop us from hearing? We found that we couldn't hear things as well as we could when we were facing the same way as the sound.
Why don't you test some of these investigations at home?
