During Black History week, the children have been researching and learning about the life of Walter Tull. The children were fascinated to discover that not only did he play for several football teams and was only the second black player to play in the premier league. He then went on to be the very first black officer in the Army. Sadly, he died on the battlefield in France aged only 29. The children used a variety of evidence sources to find out more about Walter and his life, which included using timelines, his birth certificate and on-line sources. The children used football related images from current times and the 1900's to organise and sort, using fixed criteria and then introducing their own criteria. The children were skilled at explaining why they had organised the images in the different ways.
